Evo 2023 Runs Into Unexpected Issues With Melting USB Ports

This year's Evo has enjoyed a smooth sailing, for the most part. Everything is running on time, and the organizers are handling the record-breaking number of entrants like a well oiled machine. However, reports are starting to crop up about unfortunate issues with some PS5 units that get so hot that they end up melting the ABS plastic inside the USB ports.

It's not clear what exactly causes this issue, but it's certainly not normal. Some suspect that a few specific PS5 units could be faulty, as this sort of problem wouldn't be possible with the console operating as intended. Though, others also suspect that the underlying cause of this could be with PS5s not being built with this kind of strain in mind.

While there are at least over a dozen players reporting the issues, we hope that the damage is not too extensive and can be avoided in the future.
