Calling it stacked doesn't do it justice
The Esports World Cup tournament for Street Fighter 6, the first of its kind, has released its groups with all the 32 players involved and ready to fight for the grand prize.
The groups feature some of the best players in the world including Evo 2024 winner, Punk, Evo Japan winner, MenaRD, Evo and FGC legend, Tokido, and so many more.
From the groups, some stand out, like Group A which has Evo winner and Capcom Cup winner, Punk and Gachikun, involved. Theere's also hot rookie for FAV Gaming, Ryukichi, and South Korean legend, NL.
There's also Group H which sees Evo 2024 finalist, Big Bird, up against three Japanese players; Higuchi, Moke, and Pugera.
The groups will be played GSL style, which is a system of elimination used in esports which has the idea of every match having something at stake. So the first two players in the group will face off and the last two players will also fight. The winners of those matches will play a 'winners' final with the overall winner coming out of the group as the champion. The losers of the first two matches will face off in a loser goes home match. Finally, the loser of the winners final and the winner of the last chance match will fight to see who qualifies as the second in the group.
It should be noted that since the esports world cup is a team sports at its core with the team with the most wins in various games getting a huge cash reward, the groups are ordered by teams. This means that a group can have players from the same country, but never the same club or organization.
The EWC for Street Fighter 6 starts on the 8th and ends on the 11th of August 2024.
