The tournament looks like a gargantuan endeavor
The Esports Nations Cup is slated to take place in November 2026 and efforts are already being made to get things started as the ENC officially unveiled its roadmap towards the selection of nations and players.
Also, they added an application process for the position of ‘National Partner.’ This person/organization, will be responsible for nominating a national team coach and also will handle the organization of regional events, advertising and so much more to make their nations ready.
The announcement also had a list of countries approved in which both Russia and Belarus are allowed to compete but under neutral flags.
There are, of course, benefits for the national partner, including a compensation package that could reach of $25,000 along with other hidden benefits that typically come with roles like this.
The Esports World Cup Fund has also made available $20m for the ENC and while there have already been some criticisms that such will not be enough to cover the 200+ nations approved, it is understood that the number of nations that will actually take part will be less than that and the money should suffice.
There is still a lot to be unveiled and the ENC have promised that later in the month of January, they will set forth even more information including guidelines on eligible players and so on.
Speaking on the mission of the EWCF, its CEO, Ralf Reichert said, “The mission of the Esports World Cup Foundation is to build structures that help esports grow in a clear, credible, and sustainable way,
“The Esports Nations Cup is a natural next step in that journey. By opening this application process, we are inviting trusted national partners to help build the foundations for how countries and territories are represented in esports – with clear roles, aligned governance, and a system that works for players, game partners, and fans alike.”
The games, identity of national partners, and scale of the tournament are yet to be seen and will become clearer in the coming weeks.
