Weibo Gaming announced on Friday that it has parted ways with American fighting game player Diaphone.
The organization made the announcement via social media, confirming that the split was mutual and respectful.
They wrote:
“After friendly discussions and with full respect for the player’s wishes, we announce that
@Diaphone_ has officially parted ways with the WBG Fatal Fury division, effective immediately.“A warrior’s path stretches far, yet the passion remains unchanged. We wish Diaphone the very best in the journey ahead — may victories follow you and may you continue to carve out your own fighting legacy in the arena.
“Goodbye, WBG-Diaphone. We hope to meet again at the top.”
Diaphone Explains the Split
During his time with Weibo Gaming, Diaphone had been competing primarily in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, the title the organization originally signed him to represent.
However, he has recently been spreading his attention across multiple fighting games, including 2XKO. Known for his versatility, Diaphone has built a reputation as a multi-game competitor while also developing a strong presence as a content creator within the fighting game community.
Shortly after the announcement, Diaphone released a statement explaining the reasoning behind the departure.
He wrote:
“Grateful for my time with Weibo Gaming. Amazing team, wish them nothing but the best.
“Their focus is solely on COTW EWC qualification, I've been more focused on 2x and I want to focus on competing in tokon/IVS/Avatar/GGST 2.0 when they come out + content.
“If any sponsors are aligned with those goals and want to work together, let me know.”
From his statement, it appears that Weibo Gaming wanted him to concentrate primarily on Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and qualification for the Esports World Cup, while Diaphone intends to compete across several upcoming fighting games, including Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls and the next major updates to Guilty Gear Strive.
