Recently, Daigo Umehara and Tokido, multiple Evo winners and legends by every metric possible, sat down to have a long discussion about many topics within the FGC and the current ecosystem.
The full talk is behind a paywall, but Daigo did release some sections of the discussion for free on his YouTube channel.
One of the most interesting topics was the topic of the ft10 with MenaRD which Daigo said he will do, but there has been no official date set for it.
When talking about his feelings about it, Daigo mentioned that he felt that Mena was saying to him that since long sets were his best format, he would like to challenge him there rather than in a tournament where Daigo is not as prolific. He continued that while the tweet seemed polite, it was actually a provocation, and he felt he needed to do something about it.
Daigo did not find it offensive in any way and rather said he was grateful because he considered players like Mena, Tokido, and others who have challenged him to long sets as players who had no need to make the challenge to be considered greats. Therefore, he thinks it an honor to play on such a stage.
Tokido chimed in saying that he assumed that the younger players of nowadays only saw greatness within formats like the CPT and Street Fighter League and that he was surprised that some players still saw the ft10 as something to consider as prestigious.
