Evo Japan recently posted a video that I hope we see more often in the lead-up to big events. The 36-minute video hosted by Itsuka and Hameko offered a deep dive into the top players for each discipline featured at the upcoming event.
On it's own, this is just well presented pieces of information, but they accomplish something greater when you look at the context. Narratives are often the most interesting part of any sport. Dark horse stories, underdogs rising despite all odds, the greatest players vying for dominance.
As much as we appreciate the game itself and the mastery on display, the truly great matches are born when the viewer has a more intricate understanding of the players, their stories, and the stakes involved in their matches, which is why it's so valuable to have Evo Japan go out of their way to provide people with this information.
This is, however, entirely disconnected from the title of the article, I just wanted to gush a little bit about a video that I can't watch because I don't know Japanese. The more easily to understand part is the merch plug at the end, showing off one of the most bizarre collabs I've ever seen - Sesame Street x Evo Japan. This one is going to be hard to top.
