Combo Devils Reaches Kickstarter Goal in Less Than a Day
And it's still going strong.

We're not quite close enough to say that "platform fighter fans are eating good," but things are certainly looking up. Recently, Combo Devils announced a Kickstarter for their game, with a fairly modest goal of $120k USD.

The game quickly blitzed through the initial goal, which is now enough to fund its upcoming release with a base roster of 5 characters.

Since then, the Kickstarter kept growing and is currently sitting at $172k USD, with 27 more days to go. It's hard to say where it will end up, but typically the pace of donations goes down past the initial launch.

In spite of that, it doesn't seem unlikely that the game will manage to hit some of their stated stretch goals. One of the closest ones is at $200k, which will bump the roster to 6 characters. However, the most ambitious goal is at $500k, and would allow Punkzilla to implement a fairly unique roguelite, co-op, PVE extraction story mode.

If you're not familiar with the game, Combo Devils has actually been around for a while. They revealed the game in the December of 2025 and have been gradually chipping away at it for the past 3 years. They even managed to get it up and running for a Combo Breaker tournament for several years now, which did a good job of showing off the game's potential.

Sadly, this isn't really something that publishers find attractive, which is why the team resorted to launching a Kickstarter campaign. It is honestly quite an ambitious project, and the risks involved are obvious. If you are compelled to help them out, you can find their Kickstarter here

Just go into it understanding that while the launch is basically locked in at this point, the future of the game will heavily depend on how much supports it receives from players after the launch. If it's successful, Punkzilla might be able to continue the development for years to come, expanding the characters, playable modes, and the game's story. If it doesn't work out, the support might end shortly after launch.

And hey, if you're a fan of fighting games and especially platform fighters, it's at least good that a game like this is getting enough support to release. The developers are obviously passionate about the genre, and it is reflected in their approach to game's design.

While it's a platform fighter at the core, they are bridging the gap between this genre and more traditional fighting game, so regardless of how things turn out, it will not be just another game. It's a fairly unique offering that deserves the attention from those who are true enjoyers of the not just specific fighting games, but the whole spectrum of experiences that the genre has to offer.
