Better get ready for a very different version of Alex.
Alex is still nearly two weeks away from release, but Capcom decided that it's time to dive a little deeper into how he actually plays.
If you've seen the original announcement, you know that this version of him is quite different from older iterations. Gone are the charge moves (as is sadly the tradition in modern fighters), but in its stead comes a stance with great many follow-ups, among other changes.
Let's go over the major features of this new version of Alex.
Capcom describes Alex as a power character that excels at getting into someone's face and giving them a bad time with a wide selection of strong attacks.
Here are his special moves:
- Flash Axe - a quick downwards elbow strike, good material for your combo fillers and block strings, with the medium version transitioning into Prowler Stance.
- Flash Chop - slower but more powerful swiping attack that spins opponents around, which enables unique follow-ups. Similarly, this special can also transition into Power Stance.
- Aerial Knee Smash - your go-to anti-air special, the light and medium versions can't hit standing opponents. Heavy hits standing but is worse for anti-air, while Overdrive is good at both.
- Power Bomb - the classic command throw. There is no difference in damage between L/M/H versions, but you have to pick the one that is best suited for the situation. Light is slower but has biggest range, heavy is faster but stubby, and medium is in the middle. Turns into a Power Drop or Hyper Bomb (with OD) on backturned opponents.
- Prowler Stance - the big crown jewel of his updated move set. You can go into this stance from neutrals or cancel normal and special attacks into it. From there, you have several options that include, long range chop, air stampede with adjustable range, armored lariat, quick poke, and two special throws. The downside is that you can't block in this stance.
- Raging Spear - LVL1 super with invincible startup.
- Sledgecross Hammer - LVL2 super, also invincible and can go through fireballs. Hitting airborne opponents will give you a wallbounce.
- Omega Wing Buster - the Kenny Omega verison of LVL2 super, can be done out of Overdrive Power Drop to cash out some extra damage.
- The Final Prison - LVL3 super, high damage and also acts as a reversal, but leaves you wide open on whiff.
