South Korea's NL was the winner of the Capcom Pro Tour Asia East tournament defeating Chris Wong 3-2 after forcing a reset to take his place in Capcom Cup X coming up next year.
NL has been a staple in the region for a while and is one of the most successful players out of South Korea. However, he started Top 8 from the losers' side after losing in Top 16 to UMA327.
He was joined there by another titan in the region, Oil King, who was also in losers' bracket and needed to fight his way to Top 8.
The rest of the bracket was made of some familiar faces like HotDog29 and perhaps a few names that people might not be used to seeing.
This particular run from NL is certainly the most impressive we have seen so far as each match was against an incredibly strong opponent. His first was none other than Oil King, who he even said is his best friend.
The set lived up to its billing ending 3-2 in favor of NL, but it was so close as Oil King overcame a 2-0 deficit and was even working on winning and pulling off a reverse sweep. But NL adapted and won the set. Next was HotDog's Dee Jay, and this was the easiest match as he won 3-0 leaving HotDog with no options and causing the FGC legend to go back to the drawing board.
Next was the man who put him in losers', UMA327. NL proceeded to defeat him in one of the fastest 3-0 beatdowns you will see this year.
He also defeated Leshar's Chun li before proceeding to Grand Final
Finally, he faced Chris Wong in the mirror match and ran through Wong for the first set 3-0 to get the reset. Chris Wong fought back, but ultimately, NL was seriously riding the momentum and he got the win.
With this win, NL is in Capcom Cup, but everyone else has to fight for the World Warrior tournament where Chris Wong currently sits at the top with 50 points. It will be interesting to see who makes it out of that table to Capcom Cup.
NL intimated that his win was largely due to Oil King who he says adviced him after their match. He also thanked Moke and Go1 for the Chun li practise as he really had to go through it when facing Leshar.
The next tournament is the Central America East which will take place next weekend.
