Capcom Announces Street Fighter League Asia for 2027

Capcom has some big plans for Street Fighter 6 in 2027 and beyond!

The Japanese game company set forth its plans for the future within the SF6 and esports niche in a program during Tokyo Game Show. The showcase event was an exhibition between several Street Fighter League Japan teams, but most importantly, it served as a platform to introduce the public to some major news coming in 2027.

The biggest of these was the announcement of Street Fighter League Asia, which is set to begin in 2027. SFL Asia will become the fourth league tournament, joining SFL Japan, Americas, and Europe. The league will consist of six teams, with five of them coming from the Asia region while one team will come from Japan. According to a report in Japanese publication 4Gamer, the solitary spot for the Japanese team will be decided by an event in July 2027, with the victorious team earning a spot at SFL Asia, which will continue beyond the 2027 season.

The eligible teams for this will have to be teams that aren’t competing in SFL Japan.

This will mean that SFL EMEAA will revert to Europe, with new teams joining the Asian league.

The second big announcement was the establishment of a women-only official tournament, which is tentatively being called the “Queens Cup” and will also be launched in 2027. Capcom is working in tandem with the women-only open tournament “G-Star CUP” and the invitation-only women-only tournament “Walküre Cup” to provide a better environment for women within the scene. It is unclear if any of this will go beyond Japan, but it still seems like a step in the right direction.

Beyond that, there were a few other announcements, including the date for the grand finals of SFL Japan, which has been fixed for February 23, 2027. They also put out an official graphic for Capcom Cup and SFL World Championship, which features new character Yasmine taking a swipe at Ryu with her karambit.

With the success of SF6, it is clear that Capcom is leveraging that to really push the competitive side of the game in 2027 and beyond.
