Five titles up for Best Fighting Game, from new releases to remasters and collections.
he Game Awards 2025 has unveiled its nominees for Best Fighting Game, with a mix of fresh entries, retro collections, and a beloved 3D classic. The finalists are: 2XKO, Capcom Fighting Collection 2, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, and Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage.
Among the nominees, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves stands out as the only fully new fighting game released in 2025. This title marks the return of the Fatal Fury series after 26 years and has drawn praise for modernizing the classic formula.
Meanwhile, 2XKO is nominated even though it's still in beta.
Also on the list are three compilations or remasters:
- Capcom Fighting Collection 2, which bundles classic Capcom fighters.
- Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, which gathers past titles into one package.
- Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage, a re-release of a long-standing tournament favorite, now with updated features and netcode.
The finalists reflect a somewhat quiet year for native, newly designed fighting games, especially when several slots are occupied by remasters and compilations. As votes open, fans will likely debate whether Fatal Fury’s fresh approach or 2XKO’s early-access popularity should take it.
