Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game Announced for 2026

A brand-new fighting game based on Avatar: The Last Airbender has been announced and is scheduled to release next year.

The title, currently using the working name Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, was revealed through a short teaser that showcased fluid gameplay and a lineup of iconic characters from the Avatar universe.

Although detailed information is still limited, several confirmed features already stand out. Avatar Legends will launch with 12 playable fighters, which is a solid starting roster for a new IP. The developers have also promised to expand the cast through a seasonal content model, adding new fighters over time.

The teaser featured several fan-favorite characters including Aang, Zuko, Katara, Toph, Azula, Sokka, and Korra. The game will also include strong online functionality with high-quality netcode and a fully original single-player campaign that introduces a new story within the Avatar universe.

One of the most striking parts of the reveal was the hand-drawn animation style, which already looks impressive despite being from an early pre-alpha build. The official Steam page also mentions support characters, hinting at possible gameplay systems similar to the Kameo assists in Mortal Kombat or the Striker mechanics in The King of Fighters.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is being developed by Gameplay Group International, a relatively new name in the fighting game community. This project could serve as a major opportunity for the studio to establish itself among long-standing developers in the genre.

The game is set to release in 2026 with cross-platform play across PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch. With more original fighting games entering the scene, Avatar Legends could be another exciting addition to what is shaping up to be a new era for the genre.
