While 2XKO community is still trying to come to terms with Riot choosing to discontinue active development in December of this year, some are already preparing the preservation efforts.
The preservation project itself started way before the recent announcement, but many saw the writing on the wall when half of the team was unceremoniously laid off half a year ago.
Currently it's only about the public beta build of the game, but will likely extend to whatever becomes the latest version of 2XKO.
While it's not playable online due to reliance of Riot's infrastructure, the potential for modding opens a lot of doors in the future. From adding in new characters, to having online functionality.
There's also still a chance that before the game is shut down for good, Riot will implmement netplay functionality that is more akin to traditional peer-to-peer fighting games.
