Avatar Legends Shows First Gameplay, Adds Justin Wong as Ambassador
A closed Alpha should be coming soon

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is an upcoming 2D fighter from Gameplay Group International that was recently unveiled at Comic-Con. The studio has now released its first gameplay trailer, giving fans a closer look at what to expect from the project.

In a video posted on social media, the team announced that it has brought onboard Justin Wong, one of the most iconic names in the fighting game community, as the game’s official ambassador. Wong’s involvement immediately adds credibility, as the multi-time EVO champion has long been an advocate for accessibility and balance in fighting games. His endorsement suggests that the developers intend to make Avatar Legends not just a casual tie-in but a title that can hold its own in the competitive space.

The video also revealed that a closed alpha test is in the works, featuring four playable characters: Aang, Zuko, Korra, and Katara. While the date for the alpha has yet to be announced, players can already wishlist the game on Steam.

The footage showcased smooth animation, clean hit effects, and striking hand-drawn visuals that perfectly capture the fluidity and spirit of elemental bending. Each fighter appears to lean into their respective bending style, from Aang’s airy evasiveness to Zuko’s aggressive, fire-laced combos, suggesting a system that rewards creativity and mastery over raw aggression.

This marks one of the rare instances where the Avatar universe ventures into the fighting genre. Previous Avatar titles leaned more toward action-adventure gameplay, but this one looks poised to join the ranks of modern 2D fighters inspired by anime aesthetics, such as Dragon Ball FighterZ and DNF Duel.

Community reactions so far have been cautiously optimistic. Many fans praised the game’s animation quality and attention to source material, while others are curious to see how its elemental mechanics will balance in competitive play. Wong’s partnership, however, has given players confidence that the game will have strong mechanical depth and competitive integrity from day one.

With a strong art direction, fan-favorite characters, and FGC credibility behind it, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game could emerge as one of 2026’s most intriguing new fighters, if it can live up to the expectations it has already sparked or come out at the right time.
