Does anyone care to share sources for Tobias's work in comic and illustration? I'm interested as much as I'm lazy now to search it myself

Here's what I found after 5 minute search. Artwork was probably made around the time of the original MK release. He did illustrations for Marvel

It's so pleasant to hear Tobias telling about the influence of Street Fighter 2 on MK series. The only thing that's better to know is that juggling came to Street Fighter from MK :) Sending lots of love to this community

It's a cool thing that he mentioned his inspiration from the movies for the original character roster, because that what really stands for me in the MK. It's like a chop suey of recognizable movie tropes and archetypes from the action films of the 80's. You can see a Hong Kong action, macho-loaded Western films and some samurai aciomn in it

Yeah, and later games in the series just take this mix even further. Like, it is no longer an 80's slurpee mix of basic action characters, but a 7-year-old boy's playroom with action figures from different universes. I'm not giving it shit here, btw, I really think it's cool. MK still has the best character roster ever, when it comes to diversity

Man, now that I see it, I feel so damn bad about how MK film adaptations turned out to be. You can really paint a picture of the perfect MK film being sort of an ironic and self-aware pastiche of all the 80's stuff and the fun take on  tropes of those films. It could be universally recognizable even outside the community, but they again decide to make a nonsensical shit-show, loaded with fan service instead

That's what Liu looks like in 36th chamber. Not the closest one to the character of Liu Kang, but you can feel, there is a same energy of a sort

Yes! It's in the eyes, similar austerity and determination. Makes Liu Kang from the 2021 MK movie look like a discarded K-pop star trying to act

Now I'm watching 36 chambers for sure. I always thought Liu Kang to be inspired by Bruce Lee, man... An eye-opening interview for sure
