Biography

Being a prince — that seems like a dream, but is it so? Vegeta is the prince of the whole race of Saiyans. Potentially, he could become a king of his people and lead the army of ruthless warriors to countless victories. But then, suddenly, everything fell apart. Saiyans were almost totally exterminated, and Vegeta had to deal with his many personality issues in this new unknown reality.

In fact, the tragedy of Saiyans is just a tip of an iceberg for Vegeta. The bitterest part of his heritage remained with him — his awful arrogance. Vegeta considers himself superior to everyone around, much more powerful, and definitely much cleverer. First, this unhealthy pride made the guy immensely cruel, ready to destroy planets just because they make no benefit for him. Later, Vegeta managed to take his aggressiveness under control and took the path of good guys, but still, that arrogance of “I’m a Prince” is still chasing him.

The viewers of the Dragon Ball Z anime met Vegeta almost at the beginning of the series. He was very far away from Earth when Raditz, another Saiyan, sent info about the magic abilities of Dragon Balls. With his fellow warrior Nappa, Vegeta decided to put his hands on the Balls and ask the Dragon for immortality.

The problem was that both Vegeta and Nappa were absolute villains with unbelievable might. They would destroy every human and Earth itself. Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu started their intense training with Kami-sama to resist this invasion. Meanwhile, Goku trained in the world of the dead, and Piccolo helped young Gohan to define and control his internal might. Vegeta almost destroyed them all. Only the joint effort of Goku, Gohan, and Krillin could force Vegeta to flee.

That epic battle became a turning point for Vegeta. He started to evolve from an evil antagonist to an ally of Goku and his friends. That was a long path, and the initial steps in that direction were motivated by selfishness.

Vegeta discovered that there are Dragon Balls on Planet Namek. Frieza was already there, searching for them. And Vegeta decided to join the hunt once again — separately from Frieza and his army (which Vegeta abandoned a while ago). The first signs of his transformation were noticed when Vegeta decided to leave Krillin and Gohan alone, without attacking and harming them. The confrontation with Frieza intensified on Planet Namek, and even the Ginyu Force team was summoned to attack and punish Vegeta. They weren’t too successful, though, and Frieza had to face Vegeta and… easily defeat him. Only the help from Goku saved the situation.

Dragon Ball is a huge universe with so many interesting stories. Delve into it to know more about Vegeta (but be ready to invest many hours in watching anime). As the Dragon Ball FighterZ tells a separate story, you don’t actually need all the details of Vegeta’s background.

Vegeta in the story of Dragon Ball FighterZ

This character was one of the mighty warriors who fell unconscious and almost became a victim of mindless clones. Goku and friends saved Vegeta and offered him to become part of the team to… achieve the story mode goals (let’s avoid major spoilers here). Vegeta was surprised and obviously annoyed to fight alongside Frieza, but he accepted this situation (not without regular salty phrases, though).

Vegeta is playable in many fights of the DBFZ story mode, but each time he takes his form of Super Saiyan, so you actually never play base Vegeta here.

Playstyle of Vegeta in DBFZ

In the battles of Dragon Ball FighterZ, Vegeta is a strong rushdown character. His neutral attacks deal impressive damage and open many mix-up opportunities to find an opening and start a devastating combo.

Vegeta has very powerful projectiles and can create effective pressure. He is good at close- and long-range fights but struggles at a mid-range.

You can find this basic form of Vegeta in many tier-lists as a top character, but his mid-range weakness demands additional practice.
