Biography

Every thousand years, an immensely powerful being enters this Universe. They are  Legendary Super Saiyans, much stronger warriors than any other man of their race. Broly is one of such guys, the latest Legendary Super Saiyan in the world of Dragon Ball.

His breathtaking might was noticed right after the birth. Baby Broly had a power level of 10,000, which is close to the life-long achievements of other “regular” Saiyans, such as Bardock. Seeing this, King Vegeta decided to kill the boy — who needs this threat? The attempts of Paragus, Broly’s father, to persuade the king that the Legendary Super Saiyan might be helpful for the throne were pointless. King Vegeta decided to execute the father as well.

Broly was stabbed in the heart. Everyone thought the boy would inevitably die alongside Paragus, but then Frieza attacked Planet Vegeta and destroyed it. He did that for the same reason — to get rid of this potential enemy. Broly, who was alive even with that horrific injury, managed to protect himself and the father.

Quite soon, Paragus realized that King Vegeta wasn’t that wrong about Broly. The guy has two personalities. One is calm and pretty peaceful. But the other is more like all the other Saiyans: violent, with addiction to destructive fights. The bigger Broly grows, the more obvious his “evil” nature becomes. It reached the point when Paragus decided to try and mind control his son with a special device. This plan was successful, and Broly was turned into a kind of weapon in his father’s hands — for revenge on King Vegeta.

Still, Broly has an act of personal revenge — on Goku. Reasons for this are pretty weird, but they are substantial enough to trigger the final transformation of Broly into Legendary Super Saiyan. When these two were babies, Goku annoyed Broly by constantly crying in his incubator (they were born on the same day). Once they met around 30 years later, Broly’s internal hatred burst out, and he proved to be much stronger than Goku, Gohan, Goten, and Trunks together. Only their joint efforts and a critical blow by Goku helped the anime heroes get rid of Broly.

As the main antagonist, this character is present in three films of Dragon Ball Z: Broly Triple Threat (or Broly Saga). In Dragon Ball FighterZ, Broly is not part of the main story  — he was added to the roster with the first FighterZ Pass.

Playstyle of Broly in DBFZ

Broly is good as a zoner, thanks to his impressive projectiles. His ki blast is arguably the best in the game. In close-range fights, this character is even stronger. His neutrals deal big damage. He has effective tools for pressuring opponents and keeping them in a corner. Armor and mix-up options make Brolly a terrifying opponent.

His big body and somewhat slow moves affect the fighting style of Broly. He is especially sensitive to whiff punishes. To play his game, Broly requires significant resources, but then he spends them very quickly.
